Build an unambiguous window schedule
State whether dimensions are structural-opening, survey or manufacturing sizes, and never expect the fabricator to infer deductions. Confirm the viewed-from convention in writing. Coordinate the full turn arc with deep reveals, handles, blinds and furniture; then identify where restrictors, guarding or special risk controls are part of the design. Specify whole-window performance rather than relying on centre-pane values, and obtain product evidence for the exact system and configuration.

Pre-order and site checklist

Coordinate the details that drawings often miss
Deep ingoes can prevent a full turn opening even when the frame fits the structural opening. Internal boards, curtain tracks and blinds can obstruct the handle or sash; external cills and frame extensions can alter the installation line. Confirm how drainage remains clear and whether coupled frames need project-specific support. For phased work, include plot, floor and room references on labels and agree the loading order. If the supplier raises a query, add the answer to the schedule revision: an email or phone call that is not reflected in the approved document can be lost between estimating, fabrication and site.
Evidence and sign-off
Requirements vary with building type, occupancy, warrant date, product system and contract responsibility. Check current primary guidance rather than carrying assumptions from a previous job. Where a standard, system manual or approved project detail is more specific, that document takes precedence.
Before manufacture, name the person responsible for dimensions, appearance, regulatory design and final approval. Before installation, verify labels and condition against the approved schedule.
